“Christianity is not a matter of persuading people of particular ideas, but of inviting them to share in the greatness of Christ.” These words from St. Ignatius of Loyola remind us that discipleship is less about winning arguments and more about extending an invitation into a transformed way of life with Jesus at the center.
This transformed way of life is at the heart of the work of the Center for Discipleship and Renewal (Cedar) at Forward Movement. We look forward to sharing courses, videos, conferences, webinars, podcasts, and more as we hear from you about how we can help people across the Church live lives more deeply rooted in the love and compassion of Jesus Christ.
Cedar at Forward Movement is funded by a generous grant from the J. C. Flowers Foundation. We are tremendously grateful to Chris and Anne Flowers for their visionary generosity.
Cedar’s work is fully integrated with Forward Movement’s other ministries, resources, and its mission: to inspire disciples and empower evangelists. It will:
- create transformational discipleship resources for the Episcopal Church
- support leaders as they form disciples in their congregations and ministry contexts
- spark conversation on discipleship and church renewal
- be a hub of connection for clergy and lay leaders
RenewalWorks, also a discipleship ministry of Forward Movement, is now a part of the Center for Discipleship and Renewal at Forward Movement.

Forward Movement is a non-profit ministry of the Episcopal Church with offices in Cincinnati, OH and staff across the United States. Our work is funded by sales, donations, and grants. Founded in 1935 “to reinvigorate the life of the church,” we give thanks for this new opportunity to inspire disciples and empower evangelists in our ninetieth year and beyond.
